On 14 Feb 2010, the Radio 4 Food Programme featured "The New Gastronomy". Sheila Dillon, as presenter, began with these words:
... serious study is what today's programme is all about. But can we be serious about gastronomy, at least here, a country where gastronomy is widely understood as posh eating and the gastronome a figure of fun.
This website, too, is all about the serious study of gastronomy within several contexts. In the present context, it aims to improve upon the condition giving rise to Sheila Dillon's reasonable assertion that Brits are not serious about food.
